Job Title:   Technical Services Clerk

Reports to:  Technical Services Librarian

Schedule:   Part Time, 12.5 hours per week

Status:  Non-Exempt

Starting Hourly Rate: $10.25

 

Overview:  The Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Library System supports 36 member libraries in rural Western New York.  This is a part time position that assists the Technical Services Department in the clerical and technical processing of member library materials, sorting of delivery materials, and other clerical services for the organization and its member libraries.

Job Duties:

  • Assists in the physical processing of books and other library materials
  • Enters and updates records in an automated system
  • Maintains accurate lists of standing orders and continuations
  • Packs materials for delivery to member libraries and organizations
  • Performs descriptive cataloging in an automated bibliographic database
  • Prepares materials and maintains accurate records for bindery
  • Sorts and meters mail
  • Submits orders for materials online
  • Unpacks ordered materials from vendors
  • Completes printing requests for member libraries
  • Repairs DVDs for member libraries
  • Performs other clerical tasks as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong computer skills, and ability to develop competency with a variety of online databases and software applications
  • Able to lift and carry boxes weighing 25+ pounds
  • Able to pay attention to detail
  • Able to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Able to work independently
  • Accuracy with data entry and records
  • Excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills
  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors and associates

Desirable skills:

  • Knowledge of basic library methods, techniques and procedures
  • Knowledge of automated systems as they apply to materials processing
  • Familiarity with MARC metadata standards and the Dewey Decimal System
